OBERON
A Midsummer's Night Dream
1971 Acorn OBE LPS1
. Information is sketchy about this EXTREMELY RARE AUTHENTIC PRIVATE PRESSING from the early 70's but I understand from different sources that between 50 and 125 copies were actually pressed. The music itself has been described as ACID/FOLK and PROG/FOLK and the album features a mixture of traditional folk tunes and group compositions. Grading the record is very difficult as it is a private pressing, and it must be stressed that there is continuous light surface noise almost throughout, although this is entirely consistent with other cheaply produced LPs and I do not regard it as a fault.Other than that, there are no major clicks or 'pops'. The playing surface has a healthy sheen and apart from one or two hairlines or tiny spindle marks, the record appears pristine. The labels are white and stencilled with 'STEREO 1' and 'STEREO 2' and the Catalogue/Matrix number OBE LPS1 is stamped on the run-off. The black and white sleeve has become slightly discoloured over time and the front has a barely visible scuff where a price sticker has been removed.The rear cover has a couple of tiny marks which could be coffee splashes, but generally is perfectly sound. There is also an A4 size lyric sheet which again is well-thumbed and a little 'dog-eared', but otherwise absolutely okay. I know I'm bound to say this, but I reckon you'll struggle to find a significantly better copy than this. I'm tempted to describe the overall condition as EXCELLENT, but due to the inherent impaired sound-quality I'll say

GRADING
MINT ~ Record is Sealed / Unplayed
NEAR MINT ~ Record should be almost as new with no marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover and any extra items such as lyric sheet, poster, booklet etc. should be in pristine condition.
EXCELLENT ~ Record shows some signs of being played and may have feint hairlines or spindle marks,but no lessening in sound quality. Cover and packaging may have slight wear and /or creasing.
VERY GOOD (+/-) ~ Record has obviously been played many times, but with no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Cover and any extra items may show normal wear and tear, but without any major defects.
I do not list items which I consider to be less than VG condition unless they are of exceptional rarity / collectability.
