-Artist / Group: Lennie Richards and The Nomads / Frankie Lee and The Fantasies / Mr 5 by 5

-Edmonton's The Nomads featured Lennis Richards as the lead vocalist on both Teem Twist No. 1 and Teem Twist No. 2, plus he played guitar. Richards band, The Nomads comprised of Wallis Petruk (tenor sax, leader of the Nomads), Lennie Richards (lead vocalist, guitar), Garry McDonall (trumpet & composer of "Teem Twist"), Bob Clarke (lead guitar, also lead guitarist with Wes Dakus and The Club 93 Rebels, died on Dec. 13, 1998), Orest Urchak (tenor sax), Jack Dakus (bass, brother to Wes Dakus?), Don Paches (drums) and Doug Michetti (piano).                                                                          

-Gary McDonall with a new line-up are still performing as The Nomads and have released a CD titled The Grey Album and still perform live at venues such as The Sidetrack Cafe .              

-Interesting to note, that back in the late 1950's and early 1960's Edmonton's Wes Dakus and The Club 93 Rebels and The Nomads often interchanged personnel which would explain guitarist Bob Clarkes' appearance on this Nomads' recording while still a member of The Club 93 Rebels.

-We could find no information on either Frankie Lee and The Fantasies or Mr 5 by 5.

-Artist/Group ( Side one): -Lennie Richards and The Nomads: Teem Twist No. 1 / Teem Twist No. 2

-Teem Twist No. 1 and Teem Twist No. 2 are a pair teen rockers and the lyrics are about the virtues of Pepsi-Colas' lemon-lime drink Teem. Musically, Teem Twist No. 1 has good vocals from Lennie Richards with good musical backing from The Nomads including hot tenor sax solo from Orest Urchak and understated backing vocals from the band.

-Teem Twist No. 2 with good vocals from Lennie Richards further extolls the virtues of Pepsi-Colas' Teem drink with horns, bass, drums and sizzling guitar solo from lead guitarist Bob Clarke.

-Artist/Group (Side two): Frankie Lee and The Fantasies: Peppermint Twist

-Peppermint Twist is a terrific version of the Joey Dee classic which follolws the original pretty closely with good vocals from Frankie Lee, excellent backing vocals , good keyboards, nice guitar work including a hot solo, with percolating drums and bass.

-Artist/Group (Side two): Mr 5 by 5: Slow Twistin'

-Slow Twistin' is an amazing mid-tempo soul-rocker with great call and response between the uncredited male and female singers, with understated backing vocalists, simple musical accompaniment including a soulful sax solo (Orest Urchak?), this song might have been a hit if released on its own merits.

-Ultra-rare Canadian only release and a nice find for the collector of early Canadian rock & roll also for collectors of Pepsi-Cola memorabilia.

-Visual grade: Strong VG+. Although visually a VG+ due to light surface scratches, both sides of the record play with excellent fidelity, no distortion, and while there is a bit of background noise at the lead-in, once the needle hits the grooves and the music starts, the background noise pretty much disappears.

-Picture sleeve:  Front of sleeve is VG+ due to a name neatly written in pen at one O'clock, see scan. Back of sleeve is VG++ with no writing, see scan.

Record grading:

(M) Mint: We don't use this grade as no record is perfect, even SS records can have tiny flaws.

(SS) Still sealed: Still sealed in the factory shrink wrap.

(M-) Mint minus: A nearly perfect record. The record will show no obvious signs of wear. Original finish intact. Picture sleeves should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling.

(VG+) Very good plus: The record will show some signs that it was played or otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or light scratches. Picture sleeves may have some slight ring wear, lightly turned up corners, or a small seam split.

(VG) Very good: Many of the defects found in a VG+ record or sleeve will be more pronounced in a VG record or picture sleeve. Groove wear may be noticeable, the record may have light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound, but the foreign noises will be less prominent than the music. Picture sleeves may have quite prominent ring wear. Creases, folds, seam splits and tears will be more obvious and may appear on all three sides, and there may be writing as well.

(VG-) Very good minus: Foreign noises may be about as prominent as the music. The record still plays through without skipping. The picture sleeve will have more significant seam splits, perhaps to the point where they were taped closed, and highly obvious ring wear and heavier writing. Can serve as a filler until a better one comes along.

(G) Good: We seldom offer a good record for sale unless it is particularily rare for the following reasons: Foreign noises are louder than the recorded music and listening can be distracted by the noise. May or may not play through without skipping, but should be so noted. Picture sleeves are so badly seam split that they may not be able to contain the record within.Tears, folds, writing and ring wear may be overwheming.
