UP FOR AUCTION TODAY IS A NORMAN GRANZ THE JAZZ SCENE 78 RECORD BOX SET. THIS IS A NICE RECORD SET TO ADD TO ANYONES COLLECTION. GETTING VERY HARD TO FIND ONE FOR SALE.

COVER/ INSIDE CONDITION FAIR FOR ITS AGE. THE COVER HAS SOME LIGHT MARKINGS ON THE FRONT. OVERALL PRETTY FAIR FOR ITS AGE. THE BINDER IS STRAIGHT AND TIGHT. ALL BAR ONE PAGE ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. SOME MINOR PAGE DICOLORATION IS VISABLE, BUT ALL ACTUAL PICTURES LOOK GREAT.

RECORDS CONDITION FAIR BUT WORN AND ALBUM 2072 HAS A VERY SMALL CRACK NEAR THE OUTER EDGE. LABLES WITH SLIGHT USE MARKS AROUND CENTER HOLE. UNDER A LIGHT, ALL RECORD SURFACES ARE ABOUT THE SAME. THESE WERE PLAYED SOME. SOME VERY SLIGHT MARKINGS/SCUFFS ARE VISIBLE UNDER A LIGHT.

A cloth-bound album which contains 12-inch 78rpms as well as many b/w photos (taken by Gjon Mili).

A dream album - capturing a true gem of “The Jazz Scene” in the late 1940s by Norman Granz.

The album consists of 12 tracks of various styles, from great mainstream sessions such as Lester Young Trio and Willie Smith Quintet; Duke Ellington's small combo session with strings; Neal Hefti's huge orchestra with Charlie Parker's alto sax overdubbed; Coleman Hawkins's magnificent tenor solo; Machito's latin ensemble; Charlie Parker's awesome quartet session; Bud Powell Trio's yet another fine performance; to avant-garde/abstract big-band by Ralph Burns, George Handy...

What makes this album so special (as well as superb quality of every performance) is the well-manufactured cloth-bound album itself, and dozen of great b/w photographs by Gjon Mili. This album itself surely represents what the Jazz scene was like in the 1940s, from Norman Granz' own perspective. There were only 5000 of these and all were signed by Norman Granz personally, this one being 3611.
