Description
Nick Drake : Pink Moon A1/B1
This first pressing plays to an immaculate standard and as per the other Nick Drake LPs I am selling has hardly ever been played. The clarity and depth is stunning. It is such a 'quiet' album of course and yet you cannot even hear the needle running over the grooves, the audio is quite simply exceptional!
The vinyl is visually stunning and is the 'cleanest' first press I have ever seen. The cover does have a little shelf wear although nothing major.
This is a first press as denoted by the matrix numbers and by the pink rim Island labels. The cover has a matt texture and on the reverse it states as 'Printed and made by Tinsley Robor Group Ltd' and under the Island logo is their London address.

Visual grading
This is one beautiful vinyl! It has an incredible glossy sheen and clearly has hardly ever been on a turntable with only one tiny spindle trace on S1 and only a couple on S2. S1 is so 'clean' and has one very small minor mark and 3/4 faint hairlines on one small area but they have no affect on the fantastic audio. S2 is absolutely stunning and looks 'as new' and that is no exaggeration. No marks, no hairlines and certainly no scratches plus there is obviously no groove wear on either side. The run out grooves and labels are also in superb condition.
Play grading
The title track 'Pink Moon' plays with stunning clarity and precision from start to finish. For the opening grooves to play so 'cleanly' on such a quiet acoustic number is such a rarity. This is audio of the highest quality and there is no interference at all. It sounds like it was pressed only yesterday! I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint the playback could not be any stronger.
'Place To Be' and 'Road' are of the same standard and both grade as Mint the audio is as 'clean' as could be. This is one beautifully preserved record and so far I can't quite believe what I am hearing!
'Which Will' again provides further evidence that this vinyl has hardly ever been played. The intro is immaculate with only one mega light static tick and as the vocal comes in the sonic quality is stunning. Throughout the entire playback there is perhaps 3 - 4 light dust ticks and the audio is quite simply phenomenal! Mint- here.
The instrumental 'Horn' more than keeps up this 'high end' standard with fantastic clarity. There are only a handful of insignificant dust ticks and again I am just amazed by the Mint- quality on offer here.
'Things Behind The Sun' begins perfectly and has only a couple of light static ticks just after the vocal comes in. They are not clicks! It continues to play with sublime clarity and no interference. There are a couple of light ticks again in the instrumental mid section but this is not intrusive. You expect even minimal 'background' on a brand new record and I am happy to say this side plays 'as new'. I have never clarity and depth like it and of course it is all the more impressive when you consider the acoustic nature of this album. I will grade this as Near Mint+ the playback is superb!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Know' on S2 has another super clean intro with only a couple of static ticks and then proceeds to play with imperious quality. There is nothing to detract from the audio, the vocal plays with stunning precision, and a Mint- grade is a fair reflection.
This version of 'Parasite' is without question the finest version I have ever heard. Well...that applies to every track you could say! The clarity and definition here is just breathtaking, I think I only heard one dust tick! This is pure Mint audio at its most spectacular!
'Free Ride' is of the same immaculate quality and is Mint in every way. No need to say anymore!
'Harvest Breed' is nigh on perfect with only a couple of light raspy static sounds just prior to the vocal. The remainder plays beautifully with no 'background and grades as Near Mint overall.
'From The Morning' ends this stunning album with astounding quality and once again all you can hear is the glorious music and no 'background' of any kind. A Mint track if ever there was. What a sensational album!
In summary this FINAL UPGRADE first pressing has a depth and clarity that is so rarely heard. Pressed in only limited numbers there cannot be many around today that play as perfectly as this and I 'delicate' is the word. It plays with such delicate precision and it's what you want on this album. As it is such a finely crafted and super quiet acoustic album you need it to play with sublime clarity in order to appreciate its full glory. And wow does it deliver! The record is visually stunning and has hardly ever been played that much is obvious and you could not wish to find a first pressing playing with such phenomenal audio.
The Cover
This Tinsley Robor matt cover does have a little shelf wear but still remains very strong as if it hasn't been handled very much. It mainly has some rubbing to the edges and this has no doubt been caused by sitting on a shelf and some house moves I imagine. As per the visual and audio grading the record has hardly ever been removed from the sleeve! The top edges are actually very clean with only minimal rubbing but the bottom edges do have more, mainly on the back cover one. The wide spine is in great shape and remains 100% legible with only a crease line running down the middle. The corners do have some rubbing but certainly not an excessive amount and the opening edge has barely any handling wear. The front cover is extremely clean with only one small sticker mark top right and the back cover is as good with only a some ringwear. This is a little more obvious near the bottom edge. The inside of the gatefold is in fantastic condition with no marking at all.
Inner Sleeve
I don't think this is the original (did they all have the blue Island one?) but is nonetheless in superb condition with no side splits, no marking and only very light creasing.
The Labels
The pink rim 'Island' labels are in superb condition and have lost none of their original colour. There is no writing on them and only the S2 label has a couple of small faint 'spots'. As stated there are only a couple of spindle traces.
