Description

For auction is a superb condition copy of the incredibly rare and desirable 1st U.K. issue of Nick Drake’s debut album Five Leaves Left.

As history tells us, Nick Drake sold very few copies of his albums in his lifetime. These first issue copies of his debut album are rare, but in this condition almost impossible to find.

A2/B2 matrices.

Original first issue Ernest J Day gatefold sleeve is really excellent. These sleeves are unlaminated, and so many copies have major fading and ringwear issues. Not so with this copy. The colour is vibrant, with no fading. The spine is fully intact, undamaged and fully readable. There is no writing on the sleeve and no tears. There is only one minor issue - a very small scuff near the right edge of the front. The corners and edges are undamaged and the opening edges are beautifully clean and sharp. The back of the sleeve is truly superb. The light colour is unmarked, which is not usually the case with these ‘smudge-magnets’.

Original inner sleeve is in excellent condition. These first issues did not come with the blue Island inner sleeve - only the later reissue came with the blue inner.

Record appears beautifully glossy and shiny in normal daylight. Under a bright lamp I can still only see clean unmarked surfaces- it looks as good as the day it was pressed 50 years ago. This is as close as I can possibly get to a Near Mint description of a 50 year old record.

The labels are in excellent condition- no writing or tears, or other marks. Side one label shows it is from the very early first press with the uncorrected error of the track listing.

The play test showed superb clear sound, with no clicks, ticks, skips or jumps. Throughout the whole record I could only hear very occasional - and I mean Very Occasional - quiet crackles. This is remarkable for a 50 year old record. A professional clean could improve this even further

This is a chance to own a piece of music history - an important and great record. The condition should please anyone from a new collector to the most discerning vinyl lover. I recently listed another copy which was incredibly good - I believe that as an all-round package this copy here surpasses that one.

Please note that I don’t send any items to the Russian Federation due to previous delivery issues.
