NICK DRAKE Bryter Layter (Island ILPS 9134) RARE UK 1st Pressing EX++
Original very first pressing of Nick Drake`s sophomore classic "Bryter Layter" on Island Records (March 1971).
While the cover shows a fair amount of wear, the record is in near-perfect EX++ condition.
"This is a particularly difficult album to come to any firm conclusion on. For one thing the reaction it produced depends very much on the mood of the listener. It's late night coffee 'n chat music. The ten tracks are all very similar – quiet, gentle and relaxing. Nick Drake sends his voice skimming smoothly over the backing. The range of musicians used is apt to catch one unawares. Among the talents employed are Dave Pegg (bass) Dave Mattacks (drums) both of Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson (ld gtr) ex-Fairport, John Cale (celeste, piano and organ) ex-Velvet Underground, Ray Warleigh (alto sax), Chris McGregor (piano) and Pat Arnold and Doris Troy (backing vocals)." - Andrew Means in Melody Maker, March 13, 1971.

VG COVER with minor ring wear and a spot of retouching. Please see photos for details.
- Original textured first-pressing sleeve, "Printed and made by the E.J. Day Group, London and Bedford."
- All-round edge, corner and spine wear, as shown.
- Carefully executed repair/retouching spot on the front cover, at bottom right. Please see appropriate photo.
- Includes the original inner sleeve ("Made in Great Britain - Patent No. 1`125`555") in EX condition.
EX++ RECORD, very close to MINT- except as referenced below. Very difficult to find in this condition!
- Near-perfect vinyl on both sides, with impeccable audio reproduction throughout.
- No hairlining from sleeve removal whatsoever.
- Inaudible thumbnail scuff at the end of "One Of These Things First" (Side One).
- Superficial finger nail or paper scuff across "Northern Sky" (Side Two), also inaudible.
- Tiny nick (1mm) at the beginning of "Sunday" causes three audible "ticks" (Side Two).
- Original UK Island Records "pink rim" labels with one or two light spindle lines on each side.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "ILPS 9134 A-1 U" and "ILPS 9134 B-1 U".
- This record is certified to be a very first UK pressing of "Bryter Layter", released in March 1971.
