“NEVER ON SUNDAY”

MEGARARE original UNITED ARTISTS Records very first High Fidelity Microgroove MONO press released, made and distributed in Chile in 1961 by Discos Philips (Philips Records), with catalog number UAL 4070 with machine etched matrix numbers UA L (“L” inverted) 4010 A (all numbers inverted, from right to left “0104”) U-9m 15 11-R 6F X in Side 1 and UAL 4070 B (“B” inverted and over-etched 4 times) (055-8-19-60) in Side 2, with red/black/white United Artists Records labels. It’s very interesting to notice that in the deadwax of Side 1 is written the date of pressing, “02 7 61” (July 2nd of 1961). In the deadwax of Side 2 is also written what seems to be a date, “8-19-60” (August 19th of 1960), but I’m not really sure if those numbers are really a date, because the movie was released in October of 1960. Anyway, yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“NEVER ON SUNDAY” was originally released in 1960 but we had to wait until 1961 to see this great and historical soundtrack released here in Chile and like so many times in the 60s’s, we got it with an UNIQUE COVER made of two single sheets of a very thin cardboard with back cover pasted on the flips. Front cover has an UNIQUE PICTURE SLEEVE with a big picture of Melina Mercouri, title in English above the picture and in Spanish below the picture. The back cover is also different, totally black and white with all text only in Spanish and suggested records from Philips Records by other artists: Ronnie Hawkins, Jimmy Bowen and Sacha Distel among others. In labels the tracklist is also in Spanish only but the title of the album, “NEVER ON SUNDAY” is in English above the spindle hole and in Spanish below the spindle hole, with the price printed and the paid tax information in Side 1.

The cover was already described and it’s in VG or VG+ condition, no missing parts, minimal ring marks in back cover, no writings, only some light creases and age browning, general wear in the edges but no rips, not even seam splits (!), which’s a real miracle after more than 50 years. The record is in EX or EX+ condition, glossy and clean, no scratches, only light hairlines and some light scuffs, which don’t affect play. Labels on both sides are in great NM- or NM condition, clean and clear. The sound is the best part, it’s in great EX+ or NM- condition the Side 1, loud, clear and clean, with no background noise at all (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), but some light crackles here and there, and two clicks in the second song, and in EX or EX+ condition the Side 2, loud and clear, but with a soft background noise in the first two songs and one click in the silent part between the tracks 5 and 6, maybe some dust particle, so I’d recommend a professional vacuum cleaning. Most of songs play in absolute NM condition. Overall it’s still a great record with a very nice look, immaculate labels and amazing sound quality after 51 years!!! A classic album, a classic movie, a classic hit of the 60’s and this is the chance to get it with an UNIQUE COVER!!! Yes Sirs, what a FIND!!!

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

GBP15 for weight until 1kg (usually 1 or 2 records 12" depending of thickness of the vinyl)

GBP25 for weight 1-2kg (usually 3-5 records 12")

GBP7 for one 7” record

All records will be packed outside of the sleeve to avoid damages in the cover and all records will be sent with tracking number via Small Packet or Parcel Post services.

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for.
