Mega-rare original French pressing with gatefold cover. This documents a May 1969 concert/happening by the legendary live electronic improv collective featuring Frederic and Nicole Rzewski, Alvin Curran, Richard Teitelbaum, Constance Abernathy, Michael Asso, Michael Blake, Barbara Bryant, Franco Cataldi, Ivan and Patricia Coaquelte, Chaia Gerstein, Jeff Levine, Jean-Marie Poiret, "and the audience." This stunning recording combines electronic, instrumental, and vocal free noise with field recording snippets to create a unique experimental sound-world in the form of an extended drone, suggesting some kind of primitive multimedia tribal ritual and truly unlike anything else ever recorded! An amazing artifact of early electronic performance art.

Curran is an American keyboardist, installation artist, and experimental composer and improviser who studied under Elliott Carter and Mel Powell, founded the early electronic improv group Musica Elettronica Viva (MEV) with Frederic Rzewski and Richard Teitelbaum, collaborated with Ivan Vandor, Alan Bryant, Jon Phetteplace, Giuseppe Chiari, AMM, Steve Lacy, Anthony Braxton, Steve Reich, Joan La Barbara, Michael Nyman, La Monte Young, Robert Ashley, David Behrman, Gordon Mumma, Alvin Lucier, Larry Austin, Paulo Ketoff, Robert Moog, Nuova Consonanza, Philip Glass, Charlemagne Palestine, Terry Riley, George Lewis, Evan Parker, Takehisa Kosugi, John Cage, David Tudor, and Morton Feldman, and associated with Clark Coolidge, Iannis Xenakis, Luciano Berio, Yuji Takahashi, Louis Andriessen, Milton Babbitt, Earl Brown, Joel Chadabe, Franco Evangelisti, Giacinto Scelsi, and Cornelius Cardew; he is known for experimenting with ideas of musical geography, having staged a series of works for various outdoor sites, and he has worked on sound art installations with visual artists Paul Klerr, Melissa Gould, Kristin Jones, Pietro Fortuna, Umberto Bignardi, and Uli Sigg. Rzewski is best known as a founding member of MEV and Il Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza with Roland Kayn, Ennio Morricone, and Franco Evangelisti; he studied under Walter Piston, Roger Sessions, Milton Babbitt, Luigi Dallapiccola, and Elliott Carter, and as a pianist he is also a renowned performer of avant garde works by John Cage, Pierre Boulez, Christian Wolff, Anthony Braxton, and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Teitelbaum studied with Luigi Nono and Goffredo Petrassi and was the first to bring the Moog Synthesizer to Europe; he also worked with Anthony Braxton, Leroy Jenkins, Andrew Cyrille, Derek Bailey, Barre Phillips, and Luc Houtkamp. Should also be of interest to fans of Charlemagne Palestine, Ornette Coleman, Albert Ayler, Archie Shepp, Don Cherry, Art Ensemble Of Chicago, Borbetomagus, Sun Ra, New Phonic Art, Michel Portal, Peter Brotzmann, FMP, Eddie Prevost, Lou Gare, Keith Rowe, Otomo Yoshihide, Sonic Arts Union, John Zorn, Merzbow, Nurse With Wound...
