Description

 Blue Note High Fidelity 1501--from when Blue Note was located at 767 Lexington Ave NYC

This is Miles Davis early in his career, after his time with Charlie Parker, but "Bird" was still alive when this music was recorded.  There are 2 sessions on this LP (which were most likely originally issued as 78s): May 9, 1952--featuring Miles with  J.J. Johnson on trombone; Jackie McLean-alto sax; Gil Coggins-piano; Oscar Pettiford-bass; and Kenny Clarke on drums.  April 20, 1953, with J.J., Jimmy Heath-tenor sax; Gil Coggins; Percy Heath-bass and Art Blakey-drums.  There are 6 songs on each side: "Tempus Fugit", "Kelo", "Enigma", "Ray's Idea", "How Deep Is the Ocean", "CTA"(one take on each side), "Dear Old Stockholm", "Chance It", "Yesterdays", "Donna", "Would'n You".

This album is a thick, stiff vinyl, with "RVG" scratched into the runoff area (for Rudy Van Gelder, who remastered these two sessions), along with the catalog number and a symbol that looks like an infinity sign--or the letter B (it's on both sides)....There are visible scratches on the surface, and audible surface noise, but the music is always louder than the noise and all tracks played through without skipping.  The label has some faded pink spots on it (visible in photo).  The cover is in good condition, except for an edge split almost all the way across the bottom, which is not unusual in these older album covers made of thicker cardboard that held heavy vinyl records. The split has never been taped shut, and I didn't mend it, leaving it to the buyer to decide the type of tape to use.
