Description

This auction is for a Metropolitan Opera Historic Broadcast 4-LP record set of Richard Wagner’s opera TANNHÄUSER. The opera was recorded on January 4, 1941 and featured the conducting of Eric Leinsdorf and a dream cast, including Lauritz Melchior in the title role. Other singers included Kirsten Flagstad, Kerstin Thorborg, Herbert Janssen and Emanuel List.

The record sets in the Metropolitan Opera Historic Broadcast series were offered exclusively to donors to the Met, and were not issued in great numbers. The performances, often definitive versions of the operas, were carefully selected from the Met’s archives. The recordings were remastered to provide the best sound available. Each set, housed in a deluxe velvet box, included a libretto and a lavish illustrated booklet of articles related to the opera performance or performers.

This wonderful set is in LIKE NEW condition, still SEALED in its original shrink wrap.
