Here’s how I grade my albums:

SS - Still Sealed
- The record is assumed to be in Mintcondition, as it is has not been opened.  I will explain any cut-outs,hole punches, notches, shrink wrap tearing or any type of damage (such ascreasing, bent corners, etc.).

NM - Near Mint - Cover/Sleeve is beautiful.  If the LP cover does nothave shrink wrap, it has high gloss and little or no bumping of the corners;only the slightest signs of wear/handling.  The record shows very littlesigns of play/wear, if any at all; as close as it gets to just beingopened.  Only a few Records/Covers will receive this grade, as it shouldrightfully be rarely used!

EX  - Excellent -LP covers may contain some noticeable corner bumps and possible scuffing, and45 sleeves may contain some light bends/creases.  The LP covers may containhairline creases.  Slight ring wear may be evident for the LP covers. Therecord shows light signs of play and/or wear.  May have light scuffsand/or very minimal, light surface scratches/marks.  It is a very nicerecord for listening and/or collecting.

VG+ - Very Good Plus – This isthe most common grading for records that have been handled with care butlistened to and enjoyed.  LP covers may have some creasing and/or morecorner bumps/rubs/bends.  The cover’sspine may show some flaking and some noticeable ring wear could bepresent.  The 45 sleeve may have slight tears and/or creases in it andpossibly some slight splits.  This is a nice record that has beencarefully handled and kept.  There will be signs of wear on the record, and it will likely have scuffs and/or surface scratches/marks.  It should give a nice listening experience.

VG - Very Good
- The LP cover maycontain quite noticeable ring wear and/or creasing and some seam splittingcould be present.  Also, flaking could be more evident, along with somepossible discolorations from time-to-time, but nothing that would severelydeface the cover.  The 45 sleeve may contain tears, seam splits and/orcreases, but the sleeve should still be intact for the most part and lookrespectable.  The record may contain a good amount of surfacescuffs/scratches, but there should be no ‘feeler’ scratches to causeskipping.  There very well could be surface noise, but it should neveroverpower the music and only most evident in the quiet passages of the record.
