Upon listening to "The Super Super Blues Band" and knowing nothing about it, you might think it sounds like a pretty good blues album, but it is not just any blues album. It is a collaboration between three legends of blues: Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Bo Diddley, and features standards from each of them. The combined forces of these blues greats is what sets this record apart from many other blues albums you may hear.

Starting us off is the track "Long Distance Call," which features a plethora of instruments including drums, harmonica, guitar, piano, and bass, all coming together alongside the singing to form a really engaging blues jam. Also featured in this track are occasional gospel-like screeches, presumably coming from someone who's really enjoying the music. Heard in the second track, "Ooh Baby & Wrecking My Love Life" is a playful banter between the three musicians, which is one theme heard throughout the album. Through the record as a whole, one can really feel the individual talents of the three blues legends bouncing off of each other; hearing them all together in this fashion is really a pleasure to listen to.

"Sweet Little Angel" seems to be influenced somewhat influenced by the delta blues, but it is undeniably modern with the wailing electric guitar with its wah-wah effect, and the roaring piano riffs, both of which flow in and out like a wave. Like the other tracks, it sounds improvised and yet natural and perfectly executed. "Spoonful" mostly follows along with what has been heard to that point, with the piano, bass, and electric guitar coming together alongside the singing and the same playful banter heard before.

"Diddly Daddy" introduces a female singer; I wish I could identify who it was. This track is not as engaging as some of the others, but I do like the guitar riffage as well as the piano, which hangs in the background but adds a lot. "Red Rooster" is the most obviously influenced by the delta blues, starting off with acoustic guitar playing that sounds almost like something you would hear from Blind Willie McTell, but soon enough it erupts into a more modern blues affair as the piano, bass, drums, and eventually electric guitar join in. It avoids being too monotonous as both the piano and electric guitar advance through different arrangements of the same scale.

"Goin' Down Slow," true to its name, is slower in its tempo, sexier but also gentle and caressing. The piano really takes charge in this track, but soon it competes for dominance with the electric guitar (which is also a theme throughout most of the album).

All in all, the sonic abilities of each of these musicians complement each other very well; they sound natural together, no doubt due to their expertise in the blues. Although they sound great together, it's almost like they are competing at the same time, but this is more the result of their colliding energies than any kind of hostility. Either way, the end result is a great album of blues music of a kind that you will only hear when multiple legends come to the studio to record as a group.

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++. A few light abrasions  ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(c)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP;  HOWEVER, WE ARE UNABLE TO GRADE IT NEAR MINT DUE TO MINOR FLAWS LISTED BELOW; WE GRADE THIS COVER AS EXCELLENT OR VG++

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Small yellowish water stain noted in one bottom corner on the back panel  (less than 1¼ square inch in size)

-       Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-       Minor shelf wear noted on the opening side (nothing significant)
