MOURNING PHASE – Mourning Phase. Seelie Court SCLP 013. UK release. NEW UNPLAYED VINYL RECORD ALBUM. This item does not come factory sealed. Ships with an outer open-ended poly sleeve with the disc outside the jacket. Originally issued in a very small quantity in 1971. This remastered limited edition issued in 2021. Comes in a gatefold cover with linernotes from band members. MUSICIANS: Mike Conn (vocals, 12-string guitar), Joy Crabtree (vocals, acoustic guitar), Owen Knight (lead guitar, 12-string guitar), and Martin Sarney (bass).

DESCRIPTION: Mourning Phase were a quartet active in Liverpool around 1970/71, centered on the songwriting of singer and guitarist Mike Conn. The other members were Joy, Owen, and Martin who died at an early age. Mike Conn had been in other Underground bands, and has continued playing music to this day. The original Kissing Spell label found the album circa 1988 and frantically searched for the band with no luck, eventually issuing the album anyway. Unbeknownst to all, Mike had left England many moons ago. The album is unique lyrically detailing an apocalyptic break up, and played with an intense dynamic energy. The words are among the most literate to be found in rock music.
Extremely complex progressive folk rock, with unique, literate lyrics that poetically manifest the gnarled emotions of a bitter break up, with acerbic guitar strumming and controlled anger. Mourning Phase have remained shrouded in mystery since 1971. This is the first ever legal edition, all previous editions were without the band’s consent. This recording originates from a phenomenally rare test pressing, thought to have been only 25x copies made. Only two had hand-drawn covers: one is long lost in a private collection, and here seen for the first time ever is the accompanying decorated sleeve. Mike Conn lives in a cave in Spain, still playing music, and has pursued the life of a hermit since leaving England. The co-singer, Joy, became a session artist working with Mickey Jupp amongst others, and performed on Top of The Pops singing a British top 10 hit; she has been in hiding in the Norfolk hinterlands ever since. The three surviving members tell their stories in the sleevenotes, including the long lost Mike Conn, the songwriter. Reproduces the second, hitherto unseen, handmade cover art along with linernotes and band photos.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers with inside packing.

$1.25 for each additional single LP set and/or
$1.50 for each additional double LP set.
All US packages are processed for shipping via eBay and include a tracking number. Check your purchases folder to monitor your tracking.
