THE COMPLETE CBS BUCK CLAYTON LP JAM SESSIONS MOSAIC RECORDS – OUT OF PRINT DISCS – APPEAR UNPLAYED BOX – VG/NM One box set for a total of 8 vinyl records. Hand-numbered edition 1,576 of a total of 5,000 copies of this set printed worldwide. Between 1953 and 1956 legendary jazz producers John Hammond and George Avakian gathered together trumpeter Buck Clayton and 30 prominent jazz musicians at Columbia’s 30th Street Studio to create a large-scale, extended series of jam sessions. Pressed on 180 gram vinyl. This box set comes with a perfectly preserved 20- page booklet featuring several archival photographs, including an extended essay by Dan Morgenstern that describes each track in detail, including biogaphies of the musicians involved. Includes recording locations and dates, personnel, and master prefix session numbers. Sidemen on these discs include: Jo Jones, Walter Page, Freddie Green, Julian Dash, Trummy Young, Woody Herman, Steve Jordan, Coleman Hawkins, Milt Hinton, Bennie Green, J.C. Higginbotham, Bobby Donaldson, and others. The only flaws on this set are slight wear marks at the outer edges of the front (see photo). In his career Buck Clayton played with Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Teddy Wilson, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Lester Young, and many others. As a leader, Clayton had a gift for bringing out the best in his sidemen. This box set is a vivid snapshot of an important period in the history of American Jazz and would be a prize in the catalog of any serious Jazz collector. Thank you for viewing this auction.
