Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over +22,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so.

  • Original 1967 first pressing on the famously collected TOWER Records label....
  • Contains the stunning stereophonic production (most '67 pressings of this album were pressed in MONO) dynamic big beat punch - suitable for the sounds of the sixties!

  • The CHOCOLATE WATCHBAND released their first of three albums in September of 1967 when "No Way Out" came at the end of the band's first 15 months of existence. Their 60's period released four singles and three long-play albums of generally extraordinary quality, and as good as anything heard from any garage band anywhere during the golden sixties.

  • "Are You Gonna Be There (At the Love-In)" and "No Way Out," are the core of this, their first, immensely powerful LP. Also highlighted are the group's nicely cranked-up "Come On" (obviously influenced by the Rolling Stones' debut single, which was, itself, a good trick, since the latter had never seen a U.S. release in any form) and the psychedelic Bo Diddley-beat styled "Gone and Passes By". The other six tracks are highs including "Let's Talk About Girls," "In the Midnight Hour," and "Hot Dusty Road," ...then the band submerge into psychedelia in "Expo 2000" and "Dark Side of the Mushroom," and finally, the bizarre "Gossamer Wings," a psychedelic digression that used the band's basic track from the 1966 single B-side "Loose Lip Sync Ship" as its jumping-off point.

  • All of that said, No Way Out is an extremely impressive and timeless album that nicely straddles the garage punk and psychedelic genres; the Chocolate Watchband's "Come On" still gets this reviewer's pulse bouncing to the rock bands heated beat; it and the other cuts are highly potent, slashing, exciting, clever pieces of music. "Gone and Passes By" and "No Way Out" are sharp works of psychedelic punk music, the former mixing sitar music with a shimmering Bo Diddley beat to superbly seductive effect, while the latter is built on a twisting, jagged blues- and raga-based lead guitar line that recalls the late-1966 vintage Jefferson Airplane's work. And "Are You Gonna Be There (At the Love-In)" is a stirring, even threatening anthem to youthful defiance. Of the rest, "Let's Talk About Girls" is still a very good track and a killer opener for the album, "In the Midnight Hour" and "Hot Dusty Road" are not too far behind. "Dark Side of the Mushroom" and "Expo 2000" are very effective slices of psych.
  • Overall the album remains an essential '60s teen-scene raver album, a must have any collection.
