Description
BLP 1501 12" mono LP, tracks recorded 1952-1954; first released in 1955. Personnel on various tracks includes Jay Jay Johnson, Jimmy Heath, Percy Heath, Gil Coggins, Art Blakey, Jackie McLean, Oscar Pettiford, Kenny Clarke, Horace Silver.
This is a somewhat later 1950's pressing (transitional - circa 1959) with older 47 West 63rd Ave. Address on label, and the newer 43 West 61st St., on the back cover bottom. Disc also with "ear" (I just learned it is actually a "P" for Plastylite), and RVG in the run-outs.
About VG condition vinyl. Played all the way through OK with no major problems or skips noticed – but yes there is light noise through most of this due to many feelable scratches. Still enjoyable.
Cover is VG worn, a marker name is on the top front – I was able to partly remove or lighten it. No split seams, but weak. Modern plastic inner sleeve.
