Miles Davis - The Complete Plugged Nickel Sessions Mosaic MQ10-158

Description: This is the mammoth LP box set of two nights of live performances by Davis, Shorter, Hancock, Carter, and Williams at the famed Plugged Nickel nightclub in Chicago. A typically lavish Mosaic production with pressings on 180 gram audiophile vinyl, a long essay by Bob Blumenthal, and terrific black and white photos of the musicians from the period. This is hand-numbered edition 2776 of 5000 copies worldwide. I sampled this at some length, and while I think there are better examples of Miles' playing, the rest of the band is in awesome form with Shorter and a still youthful Tony Williams in particular blowing me away. The more I listened the harder it became to sell this, but fortunately for you my shelves are filled with many more items than I have quality listening time to do justice to. Set will be sturdily packaged in an original Mosaic carton for safe shipping wherever its destination. Reserve is $250.

Condition: Disks - NM minus (Visual inspection revealed a handful of minor blemishes spread over vast expanses of what appears to be unplayed vinyl; spot play-checking of these blemishes revealed only one that had any sonic effect at all, and that was limited to 4 or 5 light ticks); Box and Booklet - VG++ (photo on front has about 12-15 light scratches, most about 1/2" long but one about 2" long, that look like they could have originated from sliding this out of a tightly shelved collection; there's an approximately 1 square inch area near the bottom center of the photo that is less glossy than rest of the photo, but it feels exactly like the rest of the photo so I can't tell if this is slight damage or if it is a glitch in the original photo or reproduction; about 1/2" of the back edge of the front of the box is worn through to a slight sliver of bare cardboard; booklet cover photo has a few tiny light dots indicating some light wear; the careful reader will recognize that I'm being extremely picky in this listing in the interest of full disclosure and that in reality this set is in all-around terrific condition; note that the scan below is of the actual box though the minor defects I describe do not show up on it)

Note on Grading: Jacket and vinyl are graded according to Goldmine standards, a visual rating system. On the assumption that many bidders will be interested in actually listening to the LPs they purchase, I typically include comments on the vinyl based on spot auditioning to amplify the visual grade. Although I try to give all visually problematic areas a listen, sonic problems will inevitably occasionally escape my examination. If an LP that you purchase plays as well or better than my description led you to expect, please feel free to note this in your eBay feedback.
