This is not only one of his rarest, but widely and genuinely recognized as probably two or three of Miles’ (and Mingus’!) finest works. Truly a masterpiece. Miles' interaction with Mingus is to die for.  And, lest we forget – the two hardheads nearly had a fistfight in the studio while recording this album, but you would never be able to figure it out by listening to this gorgeous, blue and moody, music.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          CAUTION! The vinyl is only GOOD TO GOOD+, with multiple, numerous,  scuffs which are BOTH visible AND audible. The record plays with bearable BUT AUDIBLE surface noise and some pops and clicks. The record plays without skipping throughout. This record WAS play-graded.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ONLY ABOUT GOOD++ (G++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         The previous owner taped the seams with numerous small pieces of clear scotch tape, applied across (perpendicularly to) the seams, which does affect the integrity and appearance of the cover somewhat.  Some of these pieces of tape can probably be removed easily, but we did not attempt to.

-         Cover has all three seams (top, bottom and spine) partially or completely split; top and bottom seams have been taped along the entire length

-         Cover has a minor 'bump' (dent) along the spine

-         Cover has some fraying/wear along the spine

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3 (front side) and 5 (back side)

-         Cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover has some tiny, faint writing on its back side (a microscopic price code written in one corner)

-         Cover shows some considerable yellowing on back side, apparently from aging

-         Cover has a numerous rectangular, sticker residue stains (small yellowish discolorations from the removed pieces of aged and yellowed scotch tape)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-         No cut-out (drill) holes.

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents

-         No stamps

-         No stains

-         No mold or mildew spots

-         No stickers or labels

-         No water damage

-         No warping

-         No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-         No bar codes

-         No RIAA stamps or stickers.
