Description
This offer is for The Beatles – The Collection #2155 made by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs. This low number set was pressed at the JVC plant in Japan. The set contains the 14 albums, jackets, liners, the booklet, the warranty card and the geo-disk. All are what I consider near new condition if you ordered this box set and had it shipped to you, or purchased from a record store.
I am the second owner of this set, which I purchased as new, unopened in 1994 from an estate sale in Boulder, Colorado. I opened the shipping box and verified the contents, and then bought the set. I am not a record collector, but I am an audiophile, and took good care of this set. Abbey Road has been played three times, Revolver and Sgt Pepper twice, and the others have been played one time on a Linn LP/Ekos/Archiv set up with a ¾ gram arm force-so, virtually no wear should have happened from playing them. I am not familiar with all the terms/ratings that dedicated collectors use, so here is a list of things I noticed examining the set today in bright sunlight:
1. The records have a few dust and fiber particles on them. My turntable has a felt mat, and the dust and fiber is probably from contact with it. I tried to remove a fiber from Abbey Road and put a light smudge on the surface, so I decided not try and remove any others. None of the records are scratched.
2. Some of the plastic/paper inner sleeves have folds, some are flat this as this is how they were shipped.
3. There is some tarnish on one of the brass hinges and the front hasp hinge (see photo)
4. There are no tears or dents on the box, however, the corners are not perfectly sharp, again just due to normal shipping.
If you are a collector, you can judge by the photos and my descriptions, and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. If you are an audiophile and have a great analog stereo system, you will be pleased how good these sound: to me, much better than the latest re-mastered releases, stereo or mono versions. Up to last year, I hadn’t played all the albums, but then I did a listening comparison to the latest release CDs. If you are not a collector or audiophile, I wouldn’t recommend purchasing this set : go with the mono CD re-masters.
I will pay anything over the $25 shipping to send this to you priority mail insured, delivery confirmed. It will arrive before Christmas if you pay by Sunday, December 18.
