Description

So, let's start by saying I've seen these albums sell into the hundreds of dollars depending on condition. When you get into grading records that fall beneath VG it becomes more of a matter of what you want to hear when you play the vinyl.
On this particular album, there are surface scuffs and light scratches here and there so when you listen to the cuts you'll hear some tiks and pops, a little crackle and some light noise in places through out the album. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing. When I listen to Coltrane or other 50s jazz artists I almost prefer my vinyl with tiks and pops and crackle, it takes you back to an era in which people listened to these great artists just like that. Something about that sound on the vinyl puts you in the smokey bar right next to the piano and in this case, the drums!
Another thing, unlike vinyl of the 70s and 80s, the old deep groove Riverside records like their counterparts Impulse and RCA Victor hold up very good under duress and usually do not skip even if there are scuffs and scratches. Likewise this plays without skipping. The cover is in remarkably good shape with no seam splits however there is some seam damage on the top left -appears to be separation of the picture as it is flaking away. So lets just grade it as good and if I didnt have to pay the rent every month I would keep it!
