Straight from that mythical realm of private press records comes Rick Mason & Rare Feelings, one of those half-hidden near misses that attain holy grail status with second hand prices to match. Sometimes the hype and rarity outweigh the music contained within, but that's absolutely not the case here as Mason leads his band into an especially cosmic, adventurous kind of funk which tips over into jazzy territory more than a little. The production has a raw charm to it, and that doesn't stop the record from lifting into the stratosphere on a swirl of jammed-out instrumentation that by rights should have landed Mason more fame than he seemingly received when he originally released the album in 1977.
