Martial Solal – Fafasifa (CBS, France, 1968)
Wonderful album by Martial Solal, accaompanied with Gilbert Rovere on bass and Charles Bellonzi on drums. Solal is playing here his own compositions and experimenting the harpsichcord on three tracks. The result is an outstanding exploitation of the upper registers of the instrument. Unusual, superb ! Tracks are : “Fafasifa”, “Reflets mobiles”, “Indianapolis”, “Atmosphere”, “Aquaplane”, “Henri’s”, “Musique en cinq sets”, “Faux fuyants”, “Volez, balles”, “A pas de loup garou”, “Virevoltant” and “Billes de joie”. Notice that this material was produced by the French library label Musique pour l’Image : seven tracks from this album also appear on the ultra rare library 10” « Etudes pour images en mouvements » (MPI n°08), one on the 10” “Jazz mobile” (MPI n°06) and three appear on the 10” “Jazz Moderne” (MPI n°01).
