🎤 Collector’s Background:
This EP is essential listening for any serious Lou Reed or Velvet Underground collector. These are the first professional recordings Lou Reed ever made — long before the Warhol Factory, Heroin, or Transformer.

🗓 1958: Reed (still “Lewis Reed”) formed The Shades, a group of high-school friends from Freeport, Long Island. Under the name The Jades, they cut So Blue and Leave Her For Me for Bob Shad’s fledgling Time Records. Despite being just 16, Reed was already writing songs laced with bittersweet teenage angst — a precursor to the dark lyrical themes that would define his career.

🗓 1962: Reed cut solo demos (Your Love, Merry Go Round) that were never issued at the time. These recordings are presented here for the very first time, offering a rare glimpse of Lou developing his sound, bridging 1950s doo-wop and the proto-punk grit of the Velvet Underground.

Norton Records — legendary for garage/rock’n’roll rarities — lovingly curated and mastered these tracks, making this release the definitive way to own them on vinyl.
