Description
Led Zeppelin "II" Atlantic SD-8236, Stereo, 1969. Original 'Hot Mix' by Robert Ludwig - pressing has 'RL' etched in the dead wax of both sides, 'SS' (for Sterling Sound in LA) etched in the VERY narrow deadwax of Side 2. John Bonham's drumming and John Paul Jones bass are much more centered in this more spacious, much louder mix - so much so that people complained about how it made their stylus jump. As a result, this version was quickly withdrawn for the more conventional mix heard today. This rarer version comes accross as a sonic revelation; Page and Plant liked Ludwig's work so much he was invited back to mix "Houses of the Holy" a few years later - once stereo technology had caught up to his tricks!
The record here is VG/VG+, it has some light surface noise, a side-long scuff on side 1, a few light marks on both sides, though once the music kicks in the flaws are much less noticable. LP retains a good deal of its original surface sheen. If you need a copy closer to Mint, or even VG++, keep looking, this ain't it. At the least though, we call it a 'playable placeholder' till you find a nicer copy, like we did. Gatefold cover is VG+ with a light stain on the spine just below the title, with some light edge wear all around.
