Description
You are bidding on a rare, 1st US pressing of Led Zeppelin II. This is a White Label Promo, mastered by the legendary Robert Ludwig. Since its initial critical reception, Led Zeppelin II has been acknowledged by critics and music writers as one of the most influential albums of rock music, and has earned several accolades from music publications, frequently placed at or near the top of "best album" lists. This is known as the "Hot Mix" recording, prized by Zeppelin collectors for its superior dynamic range. It was re-mastered shortly after its pressing because most cheap cartridges in stereos couldn't handle the dynamics, causing the LP to skip. Because of this, the recording is quite scarce and sought after by collectors. In addition to the value of being a double Ludwig pressing (both sides are initialed "RL"), this is a White Label album. White labels were only placed on promotional copies, not to be sold to the general public. They were distributed to music journalists and radio stations to promote the commercial release of the album. This particular example is stamped "Nov 18 1969". The final feature that makes this particular copy quite rare is the track list sticker on the back of the gatefold cover. This sticker is rarely seen on the cover itself and was usually placed on the outside of the shrink-wrapped packaging. On this sticker and on the white label, "Thank You" is incorrectly listed as having a running time of 3:50, as the song's coda features a false fade at that point. It is actually 4:49.
The record is in VG+ condition, with very few light scratches that do not affect the sound quality (they do NOT cause any skipping). I have listened to this version as well as the "non-RL" version and I can truly tell a difference in the sound quality. The cover is VG+, with acceptable shelf wear and a 2-3" split along the bottom right seam. See photos for album and cover quality. Ratings are based on eBay's album rating guide.
