Led Zeppelin Destroyer LP on Vinyl

For sale – Led Zeppelin ‘Destroyer’ on vinyl LPs.

I got these quite a few years ago and have only played them a few times, and will do my best to describe the condition as these are not mint or perfect, but are obviously quite rare.

Destroyer is a bootleg copy of a live Led Zep performance and I will explain a little bit more about this below. The set consists of four vinyl LPs and is complete. Each LP is in its original paper sleeve. Each LP has very little written on it, being as shown above L Z 27-4-77 and then the side number and some references (DRGM-505).

Firstly let's get the bad bits out of the way: -

The records themselves are in fair condition but are not totally free of some minor scratches and blemishes and I want purchasers to note this please, as I am not saying these are mint condition. I have played these and if you know the LP you will appreciate that it is a bootleg recorded by an audience member on an old fashioned cassette player and so the reproduction is not perfect (interesting and with character, but not perfect!). For this reason I really cannot say how badly the playback is affected by the scratches.

The packaging is also interesting in that the LPs are in a black box with a black lid, and the graphics are actually a sort of wrap-around piece of paper that rests on the front and goes halfway round the back. The picture is of Jimmy Page and on the rear is the track listing. It also has on the spine ‘Seattle August 77’. This is in fair condition but is a bit worn around the top of the spine and is showing a bit of white paper through the black ink on the fold. The box lid has suffered slightly over the years (it was like that when I got it) and one side has come away from the other sides (see photo) and someone before me has attempted to repair it in a messy way with black tape. I have not attempted to alter this in case it makes it worse. The lid also has two large white areas where the cover was stuck down but has come free – I’m not sure if that was original or done by someone afterwards (see photo). Similarly the box bottom has two white areas where the wrap-around sleeve was stuck to it. With care this may be fixable but please form your own opinion on this from the pictures.

 ..and yes it is a strange order for the tracks but perhaps that was the order the set was played in.

Now, something else that is important – if you look at Destroyer on Wikipedia it says “Destroyer is a bootleg recording from the English rock group Led Zeppelin's performance at Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland, Ohio on April 27, 1977........ Initial vinyl pressings of the bootleg incorrectly credited Seattle, Washington, the location of this show.”

This indicates to me that these are part of those initial pressings making this box set quite original and early, and therefore collectable. If you do not know this LP set but want know a bit more before bidding I suggest you look at this in Wikipedia as it has quite an informative page and will give you some background. You will notice my cover has a different photo to ones shown but apparently this was common on bootlegs (see note on wiki page).

I have tried to be as honest as I can in terms of the condition of the records and packaging as these are not perfect, also I do not know why my tracklisting is different to the one on Wiki – same songs but different order.  They mention an alternative bootleg recording – it is possible that mine is that one but I don’t think so by the dates etc. In terms of original sound quality please note the bootleg was recorded on a simple cassette player so it was never going to be great, but what you have here is a very collectable piece of Zep history – ideal for any Zep fan. Happy to take questions but I do not know much else other than what I have put in the description here.
