Although there have been six years between his last two albums, Action Reaction makes every one of them count. Recorded across two Melbourne studios between 2022 and 2025, Horatio Luna's second full-length for La Sape trades the darker textures of debut Yes Doctor for crystalline synths, prominent horns and funk-driven compositions that are light and uplifting. Voicemail fragments surface throughout as connective tissue. Several pieces revisit earlier material now seen in new light, and that is a thread Horatio intends to keep pulling. The core tensions between jazz and house, improvisation and composition, structure and spontaneity are never resolved but instead coexist in sounds that are simultaneously danceable and abstract.
