SOME LIGHT SPINDLE RUB MARKS AROUND HOLE. VINYL WITH A FEW LIGHT AND FINE SURFACE LINES. I'VE PLAYED THIS LP ON THE VPI TURNTABLE WITHOUT NOTICE OF THE COSMETIC ITEMS. STILL A WONDERFUL SOUNDING DEEP GROOVE LP AFTER 40 YEARS. GRADED VG+ AFTER LISTENING TO IT.

Donaldson's early Blue Note recordings were pure bop. In 1958, he began often utilizing a conga player, and starting in 1961 his bands often had an organist rather than a pianist. Donaldson's bluesy style was easily transferable to soul-jazz, and he sounded most original in that context. His association with Blue Note (1952-63) was succeeded by some excellent (if now-scarce) sets for Cadet and Argo (1963-66). The altoist returned to Blue Note in 1967 and soon became caught up in the increasingly commercial leanings of the label. For a time, he utilized an electronic Varitone sax, which completely watered down his sound. The success of "Alligator Boogaloo" in 1967 led to a series of less interesting funk recordings that were instantly dated and not worthy of his talent.

The following is a general overview about grades, subject to any above notations: MINT indicates pristine vinyl without any marks on surface. MINT MINUS may contain a few very light surface marks from play or sleeve wear under light. If you are a real collector, you'll know that even a factory sealed LP will occasionally have some light sleeve or rub marks. Anything in the VG category would contain more than two surface marks and have some other visible signs of hole or ring wear. Rarely do I offer something in the "G" state. If I do, it's usually a rare LP and priced accordingly. Values are assigned according to market availability and rarity, not a price guide.
