1956 Camden EP
His first recordings
If you were to track down the original pressings of these songs, they would cost you hundreds of dollars, and would take many, many years to locate. These sessions are from the first two recording sessions (ever) by Little Richard.
The first session was in Atlanta on October 16, 1951 and Little Richard was part of a program called The Great Snake Revue. The band on the sessions included George Holloway, Jr. on bass, Donald Clark on drums, J. Wimby on piano, Fred Jackson on tenor, Albert Dobbins on alto, J. Hudson on baritone sax and Willie Mays on trumpet. Willie was also the leader of the band.
A second session followed on January 12, 1952 at WQXI in Atlanta, Georgia. While the material isn't similar to the rompin' rollicking' sound of Little Richard in 1956, it's easy to see that he's learning his craft and starting down the long road to 'Get Rich Quick.'
This pressing on Camden / RCA is from 1956! It is the RECORD ONLY for a quite rare EP that barely sold at the time.
