LEON'S CREATION This is the Beginning Lp FUNK PSYCH
ARTIST: Leon's Creation
TITLE: This Is The Beginning
FORMAT: LP
LABEL: STUDIO 10
YEAR: 1969
CONDITION: Cover: VG+ Vinyl: VG+
NOTES: Leon Patillo got his start in the professional music business when he fronted a band called Creation in the San Francisco area in the late '60s and early '70s. The band, which eventually became known as Leon's Creation, was a multi-racial funk-pop outfit somewhat in the Sly & the Family Stone mold, and featured Patillo on keyboards, Jimmy Calhoun on bass, Barry Frost on percussion, Billy Gerst on trumpet, Lenny Goldsmith on additional keyboards, Gerry Peterson on reeds, Carol Stallings on violin, and Orlando Stallings on guitar. Leon's Creation released a trio of independent LPs and was signed at one point to Atlantic Records. Aside from Creation, Patillo worked at times with Funkadelic and Martha & the Vandellas. In 1973, Patillo joined Santana, appearing on the albums Borboletta and Festival. He remained with Santana until 1979, launching a solo career on Word Records. He released a string of successful albums on the CCM market in the 1980s, and had his own television show on TBN called Leon and Friends. Patillo founded his own record label, Positive Pop, in the 1990s, and his most recent releases have been on this imprint. 'In The Beginning' got a private pressing in 1969 and never saw a proper release. It has been rumored someplace that Sly Stone actually shelved all their stuff when he bought out the label - Studio 10 - they were working with. This is a really great LP, highly recommend for fans. Shrink is torn on bottom left.
