Aside from the title track and the oft-covered, ultrafunky "Get Out of My Life, Woman," none of the 12 songs on this early 1966 album are familiar to most listeners. As it turns out, it's a quality full-length bridging early-'60s New Orleans R&B with soul, even if the songs tend to be on the light partying side. That's part of the main draw of much New Orleans music, of course, and few were better at projecting a relaxed sense of fun than Lee Dorsey. It helped that all but two of the songs were written by co-producer Allen Toussaint; the Crescent City giant doesn't get nearly as much attention as Smokey Robinson, but as with Smokey, one wonders if Toussaint ever slept in the 1960s, so prolific and generally fine was his output.

Lee Dorsey was - and still is, some 38 years after his death - an uncrowned king of the New Orleans Rhythm & Blues. Wildly popular in and outside his native town, and influential in Europe beyond his US popularity, he placed a string of high-charting, crafty singles on top lists in the early-to-mid 1960's when his popularity started to wane. His simple, unadorned voice was a perfect icing on a cake of those complex, syncopated cajun-styled structures provided courtesy of Allen Toussaint (a/k/a Naomi Neville, as he is credited on some of his records) and his orchestra. This album, one of only two albums he recorded for "Amy" label at the very peak of his career, in 1965, is a chockfull of goodies. It includes two of his greatest hits ("Ride your Pony" and "Get out of my life,woman") as well as some new hits, such as "Can you hear me", our favorite Lee Dorsey song. The record, as you will see from the description, is a joy to listen and look at, and the gorgeous, punchy mono sound leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. This is how 60's soul should be listened! Finding a still sealed original copy?!?! Forget it – not even a HOPE!!! This may be the last one you will ever see.

(b)         The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER IS STILL SEALED; HOWEVER, WE ARE UNABLE TO GRADE IT MINT OR NEAR MINT DUE TO MINOR FLAWS LISTED BELOW; WE GRADE THIS COVER AS EXCELLENT OR VG++(A SMALL PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP IS MISSING)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has a cutout hole in one of the corners

-       Cover has a visible wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the front  panel running parallel to the top seam ( apparently, a minor cover construction flaw)

-       Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1 (front side) and 2 (back side).

-       Back cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)

-       Cover has four tiny, almost invisible, pinholes (or staple holes) in one corner. These tiny holes are NOT cutout holes.

-       Cover has one corner slightly dinged (nothing significant)

-       Cover has a small, rectangular, sticker residue (small yellowish discoloration from the removed price sticker) in one small area not covered by the shrink wrap (nothing significant)
