Description

Stunning Original 1970 UK 1st Pressing 'Led Zeppelin III' on UK 1st Press 'Plum/Orange' Atlantic Record Labels & 1st Press E. J. Day 'Deluxe 2401 002' Laminated Gatefold Sleeve w/ Mint Spinning Wheel Mechanism!!!  A Massive Rarity as it has the Side 1 "Do What Thou Wilt" Matrix Etchings But NO Side 2 'So Mote It Be' Etching!!! It Has the Impossibly Rare A5//B6 Matrix with Only 1 Etching!!! In All My Time Collecting Led Zeppelin, I have Never Heard of Another Pressing Like This!!!

Here is another gem from my own mostly Nr Mint personal collection (which I am selling off gradually to lessen the pain...) I have been collecting very rare vinyl for a long time now. As a collector, I have been very critical about the condition of the records I have chosen to buy over the years, and only selected the most pristine 1st pressings I have found.  My collection is therefore filled with not only the rarest UK 1st pressings, but also records of the highest grade quality condition, some of the best you will probably ever come across. Sadly, most now have to find new homes. As I said, I am very strict with my grading, so when I describe a record as Nr Mint - you can rest assured that it will be a true Nr Mint record (I never grade any records as Mint because Mint does not exist unless you own a time machine and go back and bag a job in a 1960's record pressing plant!)

You are bidding on a very special auction here - a truly stunning ORIGINAL 1970 UK 1st Pressing of the classic Led Zeppelin III album!!! However there is something very special about this record indeed. I have seen and owned many UK 1st press copies of this album, most have been A5//B5 1st pressings with the "Do What Thou Wilt" & "So Mote It Be" matrix etchings and some have been later pressings with no etchings. However, what makes this record so rare is that it just has ONE etching on the A side and NOTHING on the B side!!! This is incredibly rare, as I said they either have BOTH or NONE!!! This contains the normal Side A 1st Press A//5 Matrix and "Do What Thou Wilt" etching but NO etching on side 2!!! Please do not underestimate the rarity of this pressing, it is likely a true one off transition press and is a very very rare record

As for this condition, this record is pristine, with a Nr Mint totally unblemished disc and beautiful Ex sleeve with bright vibrant colours and the beautiful whiteness of the background with NO discolouration and perfect spinning wheel mechanism, right down to its correct MINT- original poly-lined Atlantic 'warning box' inner sleeve!!! You will not find another rare one-off transition pressing in this condition again so don't miss it!!! Although this will fetch a lot of money, whoever wins this auction can rest assured that they will have what may be the only copy of this rare record out there and on Nr Mint vinyl at that!!! This is an absolutely essential record for any high grade Led Zeppelin rarities collection!!!

I have gone into greater detail below but all you really need to know is that, firstly, the actual disc is simply NR MINT!!! There is not a mark or a blemish on it - not even a hairline. The sleeve is also stunning. These sleeves suffered terrible abuse, mainly due to the spinning wheel feature. When these albums turn up nowadays the sleeves are almost always trashed. The wheel mechanisms have usual been broke or even removed. The cut away which allows access to 'spin' the wheel are usually feathered and ripped and very grubby, not to mention the usual laminate cracking of the spine and corner edge wear. This one has none of those flaws!!!  Check it out below...

Cat No:

2401 002

1st Press Matrix:

Side 1 - 2401 002 A5

Side 2 -  2401 002 B6 (!!!)

1st Press Matrix Etchigs

Side 1 - "Do What Thou Wilt"

Side 2 -  NOTHING!!

This vinyl is in stunning immaculate condition!!! The Classic 1st press Plum/Orange 'matt textured' Atlantic Record centre labels are in stunning MINT- condition with NO Tears, NO Peeling, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!! There are hardly any spindle lines at all!!! On very close inspection (by holding the record angled toward a window) there is just the faintest trace of a light spindle line. The gramophone rims containing the all important 1st press etchings and matrix's are also MINT-!!!

What can I say about the vinyl that I have not already said? It is stone cold mint- with NO Scratches, No scuffing, NO Hairlines NO Bagrash, NO blemishes of any kind at all! It is absolutely perfect and unblemished!!! This disc looks like it came off the master press this morning!!! It has all the deep shine a newly pressed record that as only ever been played once before!!!  The record still retains ALL its original gloss and shine and has NO dulling and NO nasty greying of the grooves!!! I am very pleased to state that this is a record that also plays as good as it looks!!! It it has NO jumps, NO skips, virtually NO between track crackle and NO nasty loud pops!!! The thick quality pressed chunky 1960's vinyl looks and feels great (it is very heavy!). I have no hesitation whatsoever with grading this vinyl as a strong Mint-!!! Its as simple as that!!! (suitable for the highest grade Mint- collection - you will not find a better record!!)

The classic 1st press E. J. Day Deluxe gatefold is also in tremendous condition!!! It can be distinguished from later re-pressed sleeve by having the deluxe stamp in the lower bottom right corner on the front and also by having the cat number on the spine. As I mentioned above, on the rare occasions that these sleeves turn up nowadays, they are totally worn out-looking with severe damage to the spinning wheel feature and cut out ,corner & edge wear, stains and ring wear (especially to the back). Suffice to say, these rare 1st press sleeves have not remained in prime condition over the years. THIS SLEEVE IS DIFFERENT!! It is in STUNNING condition with  NO Tears, NO Stains, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!!  It is completely blemish free!!! The 9 die-cut circles have NO wear and razor sharp edges and spinning wheel feature is MINT!!!! The spinning wheel access cut-out is also MINT!!! The sleeve lies perfectly FLAT with NONE OF THE RING WEAR THAT IS SO COMMON WITH THESE SLEEVES!!! It has the virtually NO edge and corner wear!!!  The fully laminated inner gatefold is also pristine with no nasty scribbles/stains or blemishes of any kind!!! It has no discoloration and NONE OF THE AFOREMENTIONED RING WEAR!!! Impossible for this sleeve!! If I'm overly critical there are a handful of  virtually invisible  laminate creases and some wispy laminates creasies coming in from the spine. However, due to the vivid pattern of the sleeve artwork, these are virtually invisible and are only really 'feelable'. That's it for the sleeve - it is a stunner and easily grades as Excellent!!! As I mentioned previously, please rest assured that this is in no way over-graded, what you are getting here is the real deal. I adhere strictly to record collector grading standards!!! IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND 1ST PRESS E. J. DAY SLEEVES IN THIS CONDITION ANYMORE!!!

The LP comes with its Original correct UK 'Warning box' and 'patents' poly-lined windowed inner sleeve - which is also in stunning MINT- condition! Perfectly flat with NO creases and NO separation of the inner poly lining!!! Beautiful!! Please check out our feedback and bid with confidence as this is a no reserve auction with a very low starting price!

Do not underestimate the rarity of this record, either for the transitional Matrix etchings OR the condition!!! UK 1st press copies in such stunning condition are as such is in very high demand today, transition presses ever more so. If you have never heard it, you will not find another copy that plays more pristinely than this and looks prettier- it will blow you away!!! If you are a collector/investor, the price of this record will just rise and rise. This record would be an essential addition to any highest grade Mint- 1st press Led Zeppelin rarities collection.

I have tried to show you the record from all angles - there's nothing to hide!!! If you are not sure of anything just email me - I will be happy to help. Don't underestimate the rarity of this LP - finding a UK 1st press of this LP in this kind of condition is impossible today!!! Good Luck!!!

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards.  If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...

Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.

We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
