Label Conditions: Both near immaculate: very clean, fresh and attractive, just two or three very fine and faint spindle traces as seen under angled light.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 108 grams Not the heaviest record I have ever held, but fear not, this copy plays beautifully with nothing unwanted, and is a typical weight for this album.

Rarity: Not as easy to find as you may think, this was the lowest selling album in their catalogue and most found will be later non-UK pressings inside horribly grubby covers. This set is in fantastic condition, the record looks and plays like new and the cover very clean and attractive. This one also a much rarer A1 / B1 pressing.

Brief Info: Led Zeppelin’s seventh album, issued at the height of their popularity but this title did not capture the public’s imagination quite as well as anticipated. Although quite well received by critics, this remains the lowest selling title within their catalogue and is never easy to find in top conditions. This has a beautiful clean cover and a much rarer A1 / B1, barely played record. Designed by Hipgnosis, the gatefold cover gives no text details whatsoever about tracks or band details, they are on the inner sleeve. For fans needing this title, it will prove immensely difficult to find better. Barely played first issue Led Zeppelin albums are always more difficult to find, and this one is no exception – just exceptional.

Cover Grade and Format: MINT(-): and little short of as made. An unlaminated gatefold format with embossed title on the front and logo on the back. Matt finished and smooth bar the embossed details. Printed and made in England. Includes the inner sleeve in equally fine condition.

Cover Front: Barely anything to fault, any traces of grubbiness are minuscule and no creasing. Barely marked with no sticker issues or rubbing, a difficult front in amaziing condition.

Cover Back: Almost the same, the odd ultra faint mark being critical. Almost no hint of any record impression and certainly no ring wear.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Simply as made and even retaining original spring with resistance to being fully opened.

Top & Bottom Edges: Immaculate, clean and very straight, totally unworn or discoloured.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Again both are immaculate, ultra sharp and totally unworn and guaranteed untrimmed. Records enters on the back edge.

Spine and Text: Practically as made: solid, thick and robust. Very straight, uncompressed and folded square, all edges meet up flush and parallel. All text is perfect and unworn, and the white surface remains exactly that – white.

Corners: Barely any hint of wear at all with supreme shape and definition retained.

Cover Summary: An top quality all-round example of this delicate and unforgiving mid-70’s cover, one that will prove near impossible to find better. This attractive item should please most-all collectors and indeed could prove a significant upgrade for many.

The Inner Sleeve: MINT(-): an unlined inner with gently textured matt surfaces. Printed and made in England as confirmed by the imprint at the bottom of one side. Gentle darkening of the seam adhesive with any marks or blemishes minuscule. As clean and fresh as when made with no creasing or edge splits (or repairs). Finding these fully and naturally intact is difficult as record movement in transit often meant splits from new.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): and a mere whisker off my maximum Mint(-) grading. Any surface traces tiny, very few and ultra faint as seen with critical viewing under bright angled light. Very clean, shiny, intense black and solidly pressed. With anticipation of huge sales based on prior issues, this was probably pressed in considerable numbers and most were quite lightweight pressings. I have seen very few A1 / B1 pressings, most being either A2 and B2, and equally, finding one barely played and sounding so marvellous are all factors for a rarer copy. Visually a very impressive record that should again please most collectors and LZ fans.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality record plays up to it’s high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is top-drawer with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. No surface sounds, pressing noises,pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing that simply plays beautifully. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this beautifully preserved record. This copy will prove immensely difficult to find better and merits my highest possible recommendation – they are rarely seen better than this – a copy of archive quality.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
