LED ZEPPELIN

III

Original UK first stereo pressing on the
RED/ PLUM ATLANTIC LABEL released in 1970, THe catalogue number is 2401 002

First press matrix numbers are 2401002 A6 & 2401002 B5. The dead wax has "DO WHAT THOU WILT " and "SO MOTE IT BE " text etched into it. This is a rare fist pressing as witnessed by the etched matrix marks. All later pressings have 2401-002 i.e. with an extra dash between the numbers. This examplke has the first press "rotating wheel" and fully laminated E.J.Day cover

The second thing to notice is that the credit at the bottom of the label is different from all later labels. On this, the earliest of labels it says 'WARNER BROS MUSIC LTD' - while all later labels say "WARNER BROS MUSIC'.

The third thing to notice is that the catalogue number towards the right of the labels says '2401002' -while on all of the later labels it says '2401-002' and finally the most striking difference on these Earliest First Pressings are the production credits. On the earliest labels is printed "Produced By Jimmy Page" and "Executive Producer: Peter Grant" at the top of the labels below the title.

On all other labels the "JIMMY PAGE" credit is moved to the bottom and the "PETER GRANT" credit is removed altogether

These labels were changed almost immediately after the LP was issued and are now sought after as they reflect the genuine first pressings of this iconic record.

AUDIO/VISUAL GRADING OF VINYL.
Superb sound quality with practically nothing to fault, crisp and clear with a deep clarity of reproduction. Free of distortion with a sharpness that belies its nearly 40 years of age. The two channels are sharp and clean, no hiss no tics no clicks no repeats no skips no groovewear with only the occasional bit of light crackle.Absolutely nothing serious. Excellent (probably better). The record still retains its original sheen. Unmarked vinyl with No scratches No hairlines.
