An increasingly rare and highly sought after very early UK pressing of this 1969 Led Zeppelin 2 classic LP on the ATLANTIC label, 588198

in SUPERB CONDITION!!

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1 588198 A//6 420 with stampers "1 1" and "2 5" at 7 o'clock and 8 o'clock respectively

Side 2  588198 B//4 with stampers "1 4" and "2 3" at 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock respectively

The appearance of the vinyl is excellent++. The vinyl has a gorgeous jet black sheen on each side - gorgeous! In normal daylight there are no visible imperfections whatsoever and even under a bright light the vinyl is hard to fault...to be honest  I can't identify even the usual paper scuffs and wispy hairlines. Most would class the appearance and condition of the vinyl as near mint...this can't be far off. Beautiful vinyl both sides.

The labels are excellent+. Pristine, in fact, apart from just a couple of very, very light spindle trails on each side adjacent to the centre hole - again, you need to look hard to spot them.

Note that the side 1 label lists the second track as "WHAT IS AND WHAT SHOULD NEVER BE" but on the outer sleeve the track is listed as "THE LEMON SONG".

The non-laminated Gothic Print outer gatefold sleeve is excellent+.  Such an iconic sleeve, and so rare to come across an original in as good a condition as this. All the edges are firm, the spine is rigid, the colouring and artwork is unfettered by marks, nicks, writing, doodles, scrapes, abrasions, scuffs, or rubs...it's just beautiful. The corners are well defined right angles with no rubbing and the opening sides are rigid with no fraying whatsoever. And the inside is the same...spine tingling. I'm sitting here with shivers running up and down my spine...just opening out the centrefold reminds me when, as a 14 year old, I brought this album home from the shops the week it was released and first set it down on the turntable - what a golden era for rock music that was, with what seemed to be a classic album release every week. Anyhow, back to the subject in hand...there is just the merest hint of some very, very mild scuffing on the top front edge but you will need to look hard to spot it, and there is a single very, very mild 1cm surface crease ("crease" is too strong a word) adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front side - trivial. Other than that, perfect!!

Finally, the quality of the audio is excellent+. Superb, it's as simple as that. No clicks, skips, "pops" or anything untoward of that nature. Yes, perhaps just the occasional, sporadic hint of some background static but it's just dust in the grooves from decades of storage. Wonderful tone and clarity; deep, rich sounds emanating from each speaker with no distortion even at higher volume and on the higher frequencies. What more do you want?! Place this record onto the turntable, turn up the volume, lie back, close your eyes, and enjoy. That's an order!

Comes with original poly-lined "PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS" inner sleeve which has no splits or tears and just a little minor creasing - still fully functional even after all these years. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a SUPERB copy of this rare and highly sought after 1969 UK original pressing rock classic - a "must" for any serious rock vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value. You will need to go a long way to find a better condition copy than this.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
