First of all, I'll explain should there be anybody still in the dark about Led Zeppelin; they didn't release any singles! Not once in their entire lifetime, they didn't trouble the singles charts until 1997 when a re-issue of 'Whole Lotta Love' gave them their first proper (purely in chart compilers terms) hit single. There were a couple of proposed singles in the early seventies, but Jimmy Page's artistic vision centred around albums and, commendably, he was a brick wall when faced with increasing record company pressure to play the commercial game! It's the existence of a handful of these proposed singles, pressed up by Atlantic in highly optimistic limited numbers, that stand as proof of the way they attempted to push the 1970's biggest rock act in the traditional direction. But the 'albums - no singles' ultimately remained intact and resulted in the existence today of some of the rarest and most desirable items on serious Led Zeppelin collectors wish list. There are only about three known attempts by Atlantic to coax Led Zeppelin into the singles market, and it's because these seven inch records were pressed in such limited numbers and never reached a shop floor that they can now command such high prices on today's collectors market. This particular copy of 1973's 'D'yer Mak'er' is the first I have handled in all my years of trading. I'm lucky enough to have discovered this record in the recently sold private collection of a man who worked in the music industry - one of the lucky few to have been in the right place at the right time in order to pick up this 'never-to-be released' promo single. The one irony that does strike you though is that Led Zeppelin could very easily have been one of the biggest singles acts around! You have to respect their integrity though, and somehow their music is all the more special for the artistic principles they stood by throughout their career.

This is a stunning, near mint record that essentially looks like it has never been played. If that is the case, then I must now state that it has been played once by me for a play-grade. The whole surface of the disc has a lovely clean shiny appearance, displaying a pure deep gloss that can only be achieved on barely handled records. A close inspection under strong light reveals nothing other than one or two of the faintest paper scuffs. The labels are clean and the spindle area has virtually no wear whatsoever, there are absolutely no traces here that this record has ever been on a deck. The audio clarity too is quite sensational, playing with the kind of high definition crystal clear sound that only comes from brand new first pressing, direct from the original master tapes, records. This is a genuine Led Zeppelin rarity, in the kind of condition that is seriously close to perfect. Handle with care!

This is a record company paper sleeve that, aside from a few inevitable light creases, remains with a crisp appearance that is best described as 'like new'.
