LAUREL AND HARDY - DANCE OF THE CUCKOOS 78RPM - VERY RARE
I OFFER WHAT I CONSIDER TO BE A VERY RARE ITEM IN NEAR MINT CONDITION. IT IS A 78RPM RECORD ON THE COLUMBIA LABEL, ENTITLED "Hal Roach & Metro Goldwyn Mayer present LAUREL AND HARDY in THE DANCE OF THE CUCKOOS".
THE RECORD COMES IN A PRINTED COLUMBIA DIE CUT COMPANY PAPER SLEEVE AND IS A UK PRESSING. THE LABEL IS DARK BLUE (ALMOST BLACK) AND GOLD AND FEATURES THE 'MAGIC NOTES' TRADE MARK.
I HAVE DONE A LITTLE RESEARCH TO TRY AND DATE THIS RECORD BUT HAVE ONLY BEEN PARTLY SUCCESSFUL. THE SLEEVE STATES THAT THE RECORD WAS CREATED WITH THE "NEW PROCESS", WHICH I UNDERSTAND WAS USED BY COLUMBIA TO RECORD DISCS AFTER 1925. THE LABEL BEARS SOME HANDWRITTEN CURSIVE SCRIPT IN FOUNTAIN PEN, WHICH SEEMS TO BE AN INSCRIPTION DENOTING THE RECORD HAVING BEEN GIVEN AS A GIFT. THIS IS DATED IN ROMAN NUMERALS AS MDCCCCXXXIII, WHICH ALTHOUGH TECHNICALLY INCORRECT, SEEMS TO BE INDICATING THE DATE 1933. THIS IN MY VIEW PLACES THE RELEASE OF THIS RECORD AS BETWEEN 1925 AND 1933, BUT I WOULD GUESS IT WAS PROBABLY NEW AT THE TIME IT WAS GIVEN AS A GIFT, SO 1932/3 MAY BE THE CORRECT DATE.
CONDITION - THE PAPER SLEEVE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. IT IS STILL INTACT, WITH NO SPLITS OR TEARS, AND ALTHOUGH A LITTLE CREASED, THIS IS MINIMAL AND TO BE EXPECTED FOR ITS AGE.
THE VINYL IS NEAR MINT. EXTRAORDINARILY IT IS UMARKED, MAKING THIS 78 A REAL RARITY FOR THIS FACT ALONE. THE LABEL ON ONE SIDE HAS THE AFOREMENTIONED INSCRIPTION, BUT IT IS NICELY WRITTEN, AND CREATES A KIND OF TWO-TONE EFFECT. IT ALSO HELPS TO DATE THIS ITEM WHICH IS REALLY USEFUL.
I INVITE BIDS THEREFORE ON WHAT MUST BE A RARITY IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE.

MY POLICY
1. First and foremost - I always offer a REFUND of both item cost and postage (on return of goods) if a buyer is not satisfied with the item.
2. I try to describe each item as accurately as possible, rather than just give it a generic grading which could be interpreted in different ways. I play every record that does not appear MINT/NEAR MINT. I generally do not list records which jump/skip, and if I do then I will state this in the description. (I have an old 1960s BUSH record player, and if a record plays fine on this, it should play fine on just about anything.)
3. I do NOT charge extra for Paypal transactions.
4. I prefer payments by Paypal, personal cheque or UK postal orders, but will accept cash (Sterling, Euros or U.S. Dollars) if a request is made to me via email. I would recommend sending cash - notes only - by recorded delivery.
5. PLEASE contact me if you have payment issues. Obviously I prefer a quick payment, which usually guarantees despatch of item in the next available post, but I am fairly flexible as long as I know payment is coming. I hate having to leave negative feedback, or non paying buyer alerts, but I will if necessary.
5. I do NOT attempt to make a profit on postage. I post at cost, with packaging costs added.
