Description
This is the original deep-groove RVG-etched “P”-pressing of “Spotlight on Percussion” on Vox DL 180.
The flat-rim playing surface appears to be in mint, unused condition, with an extraordinary luster. The single LP comes in a box that is also in remarkable condition, with unworn edges and seams: slight rubbing on the front slick. The 18-page illustrated booklet is also in near-new condition and warrants some description: the narrator is Al “Jazzbo” Collins, who discusses the various components used by classical percussionist Arnold Goldberg and Kenny Clarke. This 1955 recording was engineered by “Dr. Rudolph Van Gelder” who has included a rare technical discussion of the recording process. (Rudy was well-known for being secretive about his equipment and recording technique.)
