KING OLIVER'S CREOLE JAZZ BAND

GENNETT 5133

V+ / E-

TITLES:

  • Just Gone
  • Canal Street Blues

One of the best and most important bands in the history of early Jazz. The Creole Jazz Band consited of: Baby Dodds, durms; Honore Dutrey, trombone; Bill Johnson, bass; Louis Armstrong, second cornet; Johnny Dodds, clarinet and Lil Hardin-Armstrong on piano. Joe Oliver took first cornet honors himself. Recorded in beautiful Richmond Indiana on April 5, 1923. This is pure jazz at its finest!

Record has very few light scuffs and very light scratches per side. "A" side appears to have seen more plays, has some minor label fading and is graded V+. "B" side has one 3/8" long moderate scratch which runs parallel to the groove at the end of the intro. Perhaps from a light needle drop. This is inaudible, but visible. "B" side looks E- and plays E- or better. A very nice copy of a very significant record.
