Description

John Lennon – ‘Roots’ Album (1975 Unofficial release) – John Lennon Sings the Great Rock & Roll Hits

Beatles/Lennon fans will know the incredible story behind this album and the final official UK release titled “Rock ‘n’ Roll”. Of the chaotic Phil Spector sessions, the ‘lost’ tapes and John’s court battles with Maurice Levy which lead to the TV advertised album “John Lennon Sings the Great Rock & Roll Hits” being sold via mail order in the US. Before John and Apple records sued Levy and had the record withdrawn.

Before being withdrawn approx 3,000 copies had been pressed and sold. Making them very desirable collectors items. This, sadly, is not one of those original pressings!!

Unofficial copies were swiftly produced and this copy is one of them. Still a very nice collectors item! It has the giveaway ‘Greatest’ on the spine instead of ‘Great’, there is just a plain white inner sleeve instead of the advertising sleeve, the cover is a ‘paste-on’ and the ‘Soul Train’ advert on the rear of the album cover tends to be quite blurred (although this copy is clean).

The vinyl is excellent condition with some hairlines under bright light. The sleeve is very good plus condition with some creasing and storage wear to corners and opening edge. The spine is clean and readable.

I have been a Beatles fan since the day I sat down in 1973 to listen to the ‘Blue Album’. As a young lad this was the first time I had consciously listened to the band. From the first few bars of Strawberry Fields Forever, I was hooked. So it is with a very heavy heart that I now have to sell my vinyl collection! I have been selling a number of items recently but now need to let the vinyl go. I am not a dealer, so please accept my gradings as being as honest as I can make them without a professional background or equipment. Unless stated the gradings are visual, as I just don’t have the time to play grade everything.

Records will be removed from their original sleeve and dispatched in a plain white sleeve. All items will be placed in a protective clear sleeve and dispatched in a card mailer.

I always obtain a proof of posting from Post Office.
