Description
Rarely seen UK mono first pressing of the John Coltrane Quartet's 1963 release Ballads, issued in the UK on His Master's Voice (HMV). This is a great playing copy that has survived 60 years well.
The front laminated flipback sleeve has had tape applied to a seam split to the bottom edge, but otherwise in really solid shape with very little wear, no other damage or writing. It grades VG at least.
The vinyl plays really nicely – a touch of static/surface noise at times during quieter sections, but it's bright and glossy and there are no feelable scratches. The kind of marks and hairlines you'd expect, but these don't affect the audio. I'd grade the vinyl at Excellent minus overall.
The black and red HMV labels are in excellent shape as you can see from the photos.
The original lined inner sleeve is in solid VG+ order.
Rare collectable, stellar jazz - so hard to find a UK 1st pressing in this shape.
