This is an early Blue Note NYC pressing from the original 1958 release era, cut by Rudy Van Gelder and pressed at the Plastylite plant.

• Pressing Characteristics: Deep groove both sides; “RVG” stamped and “Ear” (Plastylite “P”) etched in the runouts

• Matrix: BN-LP-1577-A / BN-LP-1577-B

• Label Variant: 47 West 63rd with ® symbol — an early NYC pressing (second label variation) using the same RVG stampers and Plastylite metalwork as the first issue

• Cover: High-gloss laminated front cover printed in the distinct blue-green color tone used on original Reid Miles designs; back slick reads 43 West 61st St., New York 23.

• Inner Sleeve: Correct period Blue Note “ad” sleeve included

Condition

• Vinyl: Excellent (VG+) — retains deep original gloss with a few faint hairlines and light sleeve scuffs visible under angled light. Plays clean and dynamic with only occasional, very light intermittent ticks. No skips or distortion. Labels clean with minimal spindle wear.

• Inlay / Liner Notes: Near Mint (NM) — exceptionally clean with no writing, tears, or discoloration.

• Album Cover: Excellent — original high-gloss laminated blue-green front cover shows light corner and edge wear, small area of laminate lift lower right. Seams are intact with some slight separation at the top and middle spine.

• Original Paper Inner Sleeve: Excellent — period-correct Blue Note “ad” sleeve, light age toning only, one split at bottom repaired with scotch tape.

Playback Note: Side 1 plays clean and dynamic with only a few light, intermittent ticks typical of original Blue Note vinyl. Side 2 presents a very light crackle in some quieter passages but no skips, pops, or distortion. Overall sound remains rich, full, and true to the classic Van Gelder mastering.
