 This twelve volume set derives fromthe material originally set down over a five week period beginning on May 21,1938.  Under the auspices of the Libraryof Congress and its chief of the Music Division, Harold Spivacke, andresponding to the questions of its Folk Music curator, Alan Lomax.  Ferdinand “Jelly Roll” Morton (born circa1885; died 1941) combined commentary, playing, singing, exaggeration andautobiography to create this important documentary: a personalized history ofNew Orleans Jazzs recounted by one of the most colourful and significantfigures.
