Description
Sealed original opened for listing purposes only (label desription) This LP has never been played, JACKIE MCLEAN, "Right Now" Blue Note 4215 LP, with original blue note insert sleeve, and still in shrink wrap! Blue Note Records BLP 4215 (Mono). Blue and White, New York Label with "VAN GELDER" mark in Deadwax Trailing. M/NM+(M-). This LP came from a collection once owned by local Seattle area Jazz DJ and like nearly all of his LPs was rarely or never played (this one was sealed). "Right Now" features Jackie McLean fronting a quartet. For those of us who love McLean's playing, this is a big bonus because he doesn't compete for solo space with any other horns. Jackie rises to the occasion, contributing plenty of intense and unfettered blowing. The other guy who really stands out is the underrated Clifford Jarvis; his turbocharged drumming powers the faster tunes. Aside from "Poor Eric" (pianist Larry Willis's moving tribute to the late, great Dolphy, with maybe a sideways glance toward Mingus's Town Hall Concert album), the compositions are basically Blue Note 60s post-bop: two fast swingers ("Eco", "Christel's Time") and a grooving boogaloo ("Right Now"). It's the high-energy playing that completely justifies picking up this excellent record. Highly recommended for jazz aficionados. Really amazing album, another great find!
Side 1: Eco, Poor Eric.
Side 2: Christel's Time, Right Now.
Credits: Jackie McLean (Alto Sax), Larry Willis (Piano), Clifford Jarvis (Drums), Bob Cranshaw (Bass).
