Description

The legendary one. Jazz at the Pawnshop, the AudioSource US edition of Proprius PROP 7778-79, half-speed mastered by Jack Hunt at the JVC Cutting Center and pressed by JVC Japan on their premium vinyl. Among the many editions of this record, this half-speed JVC pressing is the one audiophiles chase, with Discogs collectors calling the sound phenomenal and worth years of hunting.

Recorded by Swedish engineer Gert Palmcrantz on December 6 and 7, 1976 at Jazzpuben Stampen in Stockholm, a club that had operated as a pawnshop before, and regarded by many audiophiles as one of the best jazz recordings of the 20th century. Arne Domnérus on alto sax and clarinet, Bengt Hallberg on piano, Lars Erstrand on vibes, Georg Riedel on bass, and Egil Johansen on drums. Two records of swinging standards: Limehouse Blues, Struttin' With Some Barbecue, Jeep's Blues, Lady Be Good, Barbados, How High the Moon, Take Five, and more, with the clinking glasses and room sound that made this the eternal hi-fi show demo record.

Gatefold jacket with the Jonas Englund watercolor art and full Swedish liner notes with the pen and ink drawing of the club interior. This is the pressing to own if you want to hear why people have been using this album to sell speakers for fifty years.

Condition

Vinyl: Both records visually NM. Deep glossy surfaces, appear carefully handled. Proprius labels clean, HALF-SPEED MASTERED printed on labels.

Cover: VG+. Gatefold shows corner wear and bumping at the top corners with a small area of surface loss at the upper left, and light shelf wear. Interior spread is clean and bright.

Sleeves: Records housed in protective poly inner sleeves.
