At the height of Linkin Park’s success, MTV helped sponsor a collaborative EP between the rap-rock group and multimillion-album selling Jay-Z, who had shared disc space with other emcees before (see his effort with R. Kelly, 2002’s The Best of Both Worlds), but never a group primed for rock radio. The six-song EP, originally released in 2004, is still considered a highlight in both the collaborators’ careers (especially Linkin Park), and could’ve sparked a stylistic shift in the work of all involved — whether in side projects like Linkin Park member Mike Shinoda’s hip-hop-heavy Fort Minor or the edgier tracks on Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3 or Magna Carta Holy Grail that exhibited a different side to the Grammy-winning rapper.

As for the release itself, the six-song VINYL EP is not unlike current CD pressings of the release. There’s no word on a digital download being included, but Collision Course‘s age and availability almost doesn’t merit one.
