Crownless King 3" Label
James Brown & His Famous Flames "Please Please Please"

Record and Cover Condition are as follows:
Front Cover & Seams: VG conditon. Intact spine - no writing on the front, but there is a thin pink line on the woman's right calf - it may not be visible unless you supersize the photo. The top seam is split about half way. The bottom seam has a 2" split in the middle and it appears that the bottom seam was repaired with glue because the rest is all intact, but that may be because of the repair - it was well done and not noticeable. Overall, the body of the front cover is in nice condition as you can see in the photo. The cover is in no danger of coming apart so it has a good appearance, but it has been repaired
Back Cover: VG due to writing in 3 places (the name "Hoover") but all in all, not bad. No peeling rips or tears
Vinyl LP: I played the record through two times and I would rate it as VG- There is some snap, crackle and pop but it didn't skip. The worst of it is on side 1 with the title track - that was probably the most played song. When the music is cooking (which is most of the time) the rich Mono fidelity creates a unique listening experience that is available only in this format. If you haven't heard 'Chonnie-On-Chon" on an early pressing King mono LP then you are in for a treat. On other songs, J.B.'s voice sounds like he is in the room with you and the sax just blows out of the speakers. This is not a heavy vinyl record - after the first pressing (2" King) the vinyl is lighter, but it still has great clarity and fidelity - the highs are rich without cracking and the lows are deep without buzzing - that's the best way to describe it. There are many light scratches that may not be visible in the photos and the gloss is not as bright as it appears in the photos - a flash was used and it seems to have given the vinyl some sheen that's not all there.
Labels: VG++. As you can see there is no writing and no rips, tears or peeling. The silver is intact and they really look great - supersize the label photos and see for yourself.
These ratings are estimates only. Record players vary greatly in the sound production, how much of the scratches they pick up, etc. and if I think the record is "VG-" and you think that it should only be rated "G+" because it has crackle noise, just bid according to a lower grade. I have included many photos so you can judge the cover and labels for yourself. My overall impression is this is a nice starter copy or fill-in until you can upgrade - it's a decent copy to have if you've always wanted the Legs cover, and if you want to hear James Brown in the beginning, on nice, deep groove vinyl, but if the bidding goes over $100 you're paying too much.
