JOY DIVISION: Original 1979 First Pressing “Licht Und Blindheit” aka “Sordide Sentimental” 7in EP Signed Twice by Peter Hook, with a 1979 Gig-Ticket Debuting “Atmosphere”.



This item is one of a complete private Joy Division/Related collection of fine quality being offered to the public. Packing And Shipping Are Free. Description:


As you see from the photos, this is an original 1979 First Pressing “Licht Und Blindheit” aka “Sordide Sentimental” 7in EP, Signed Twice by Peter Hook.


All the original markings can be clearly seen, such as the circular dips on the disc label area, the serrated side, the brown old glue on the inside, and the dot-matrix printing of the images.


This one is the second lowest number to ever be offered for sale (16 of 1578). It is all complete with the blue paper, and the translation. The disc is like new, and the cover is in very good/excellent condition.


It was signed twice by Peter Hook, once in 2007 at The Urbis in Manchester during The Hacienda Display Exhibition, and again on 7th October 2009 at Arches in Glasgow during his Hacienda Book tour. Even Peter Hook asked where it was from, because its number is so low (16 of 1578).


Moreover, this “Sordide Sentimental” comes with a used ticket-stub from the first Joy Division Gig that introduced the song “Atmosphere” to the public, obviously it was still with its working title “Chance”.


The ticket-stub is from Joy Division’s London Gig at The Royalty Theatre, Kingsway on Sunday 17th June 1979.


This was a special Gig, because according to the set-list written in Rob Gretton’s notebook, the first song of the night was “Chance”.


Additionally, this Gig supporting John Cooper-Clark in London was somewhat of an unknown, as it was not advertised in any of the newspapers.


So anyone who had attended that Gig and enjoyed Joy Division went home with a pleasant unexpected experience, topped with being the firsts to hear the song “Atmosphere”.

The songs “Atmosphere” and “Dead Souls” were both gifted by Factory records and Joy Division to a new Avant-garde French record label “Sordide Sentimental”, they were then released by them on 18th March 1980 as “Licht Und Blindheit” (German for “Light And Day”).


This was a France-only Limited Edition 7in single of only (1578), featuring the tracks “Atmosphere” on “Side A” and “Dead Souls” on “Side B”, the creative cover design was by Anton Corbijn.


This item is kept in an easy to remove acid-free holder.
