In His Own Write
Rare Original Hard Back First Edition Copy of his First Book!
.,.. About the Book
This auction is for a rare 1964 First Edition copy of John Lennon's first book 'In His Own Write'. This is the Hard Back edition.
This is a first edition copy of this book that was bought just a couple of weeks after the book was released. I say this because, at the back, it's dated in pencil as "P36. Mrs King 9/4/64", just a couple of weeks after the book's release on March 23rd. The inside page, on the left, carries the original price of 9s. 6d. net and a couple of pages in it says "First published in Great Britain 1964. © 1964 by John Lennon" followed by printers information.
The book was a collection of 31 stories, poems and writings accompanied by drawings and illustrations by Lennon himself, preceeded by a foreword by Paul McCartney.
The book is in a remarkable condition for its age. Most copies are found worn, torn, battered and with pages missing or falling out, but this is still a very nice, respectable copy! It does have a little age to it, no denying that, and the front cover is creased where someone's bent over the top right corner. But, apart from that and some general light wear and tear, it's holding nicely.
There's a little dirst buildup on the laminate on the front and back. The opening page has browed lightly but the rest are very clean and flat with no creasing or tears, and every page is held tight with none being loose or falling out. There's some pencil writing on the back, as I said before, that gives the name "Mrs. King" and a date of 9/4/64 which I'm assuming is the date this book was either bought or given as a gift.
A nice example of this rare and highly collectible book! If you're interested, I also have a copy of his other book "A Spaniard in the Works" currently listed up on eBay, too!
