~ condition ~


record is in Excellent - Condition and has been
fully Play Tested and it Sounds Great and plays with
no skips, repeats or bad noise but it does have
mellow crackle + some soft stray pops & the LP has
shiny clean vinyl with just slight wear and the labels
are shiny & clean with no writing or markings

the cover displays fantastically with bold bright
printing and has intact seams & no writing or markings
but there is a little wear to the corners & there are
small neat clear tape repairs to both opening edges
but these are only seen up close

displays & plays nicely

~ Jim Flora ~


Jim Flora (aka James Flora) is best known for his
distinctive idiosyncratic Lp Cover Art for RCA Victor
and Columbia Records during the 1940s-'50s with a
cartoonish style that had a diabolic humor and uninhibited
outrageous sense of the bizarre often done with playful
comic, erotic & macabre subject matter on occasion shocking
and offending with his images of absurdist violence and
sexual excess. music was one of Flora's muses & his work
radiated with overtones of improvisation described as
"a one-man band jamming on a canvas"

his early illustration style influenced many artists
including, Derek Yaniger, Shag (Josh Agle), Tim Biskup
children's book author Lane Smith, Pixar animator
Pete Docter, J.D. King, Michael Bartalos, J. Otto Seibold
Phillip Anderson and Terry Allen

Flora began working at Columbia in 1942 under
Alex Steinweiss who is considered the inventor of the
illustrated album cover & in 1943 when Steinweiss entered
the navy, Flora became Art Director launching Columbia's
monthly new release booklet Coda which he illustrated
and designed through 1945 when he was  replaced by
Robert. M. Jones. in 1952 he was Art Director at Park East
magazine where he published the first illustrations by greats
R.O. Blechman and Andy Warhol but Flora soon found his
own voice as a commercial artist including Album artwork
resulting in a Golden Age of Flora LP Album covers including
such celebrated designs like Lord Buckley's Hipsters Flipsters
Shorty Rogers Courts the Count, Finger-Poppin' Daddies
Knock Me Your Lobes Mambo For Cats and
the great Inside Sauter-Finegan cover

others have parodied his style - his artwork for the
1955 Rca Victor release 'This is Benny Goodman & his
Orchestra' was parodied twice: on a 1998 Pearl Jam tour
poster and on the cover art for the 2000 Oscillate My
Metallic Sonatas by the theremin band The Lothars + the
cover of the 2003 Conviction by  Taylor Mali parodied
Flora's 1947 Gene Krupa cover artwork

~ Our Record Condition Guide ~


since everyone has their own ideas about grading the condition
of records, we've decided to spell out how we do it. our descriptions are
also extremely thorough & individually note flaws that a generic condition grade
cannot. we also occasionally assign a + and - for in-between grades

Mint

perfect, never played & usually still factory sealed

Near Mint

nearly perfect with almost no signs of handling

Excellent

the slightest visual wear that in no way interferes with the sound

 Very Good +

light visible signs of handling & wear but well taken care of
and plays with only mellow occasional crackle and/or soft pops but 
nothing interfering with enjoying the record/artwork

Very Good

obviously used & handled, but not mishandled, with no skips,
repeats or bad noise, but with noticeable crackle, pops & soft tics or
artwork defects, but nothing too bad overall

 Very Good -

considerable visible wear & background noise with possible
skips, repeats, tics and cover flaws, but still enjoyable & would
be obviously well-used and somewhat mishandled

So-So

anything below VG- which we rarely sell, except
for really rare records that are worth listing only because
they're so hard to find & sought-after in any condition

Disclaimer

not everyone's turntable sounds & functions the same, but we
have a nice sensitive set-up that makes flaws very obvious to us and we try
to note everything we ear and see. while vinyl is an awesome sounding format,
there is almost always some sort of background noise while listening to a
record. we are just about as picky as anyone, so trust us
but be sure to read our descriptions carefully!
